Aug 30, 2013 · The 700R4 still being cheaper than the Gear Vendors with a little more work but with a 0.7/1 OD ratio. The Gear Vendors coming in at the largest expense but with a 0.78/1 OD ratio almost doesnt make sense to me at a 22% drop in final drive ratio vs dollar amount.
Sep 26, 2008 · 700r4 rpm shift points In normal driving, just easy acceleration from a stop, not WOT, at what rpm's do your 700r4's shift... I'm used to a 350, which shifted at a low rpm.
But, another safe way to get a reading that will be within 100 to 200 rpm, is to have a manually-shifted automatic transmission, or a way to hold it in high gear (1:1 ratio). With your car rolling at 10 to 15 mph, mash the throttle pedal to the floor, look at the tachometer, and then lift your foot from the throttle.
To raise throttle pressure (and raise shift points, and make "kick down" more responsive) move the cable housing towards the firewall (away from the throttle linkage) As you simultaneously depress the button on the cable housing, move the cable housing away from the carburetor (or throttle body) to increase throttle pressure.
The 180.03 mph run on the Sunday was simply a reflection of a slightly over-zealous tune off the line, the wheelspin bringing the revs up, and therefore the shift points. The unusual top speed was further helped along by the high-lustre polish (a combination of Autoglym, and our Brian's wax on - wax off detailing).
Apr 13, 2020 · Transmission shudder is usually caused by a lack of transmission fluid or a slipping torque converter clutch. Contaminants in the transmission fluid may also lead to transmission shudders, but because the transmission is a closed system, dirty transmission fluid is usually a sign of a larger problem.
Just bought a '89 Chevy S-10 pickup that has a 350 V8 and 700R4 transmission. The transmission shifts at relatively high engine speeds during normal driving. Suspect the previously owner may have been setting up the truck for drag racing. Are the shift points controlled by the valve body? How can the shift points be lowered for daily driving?
Feb 04, 2020 · I do not believe it impacts anything other than throttle mapping (accelerator response) and shift points. From Toyota - The Tow Package's selectable TOW/HAUL mode adjusts throttle sensitivity and transmission shift control, favoring and holding lower gears when accelerating or decelerating to help enhance control and safety. For lower shift points at wide-open throttle install stronger springs. After the cable is adjusted the approximate shift points should be 15 to 18, 25 to 30 and 40 to 50 MPH at very light throttle depending on tire size and axle ratio. Light throttle shift points are measured in MPH and full throttle shift points are measured at what RPM.

The ratio of the linkage on the carburetor is critical for a 700R4 to shift properly. The distance from the pivot point of the carb linkage to the accelerator connection and the distance from the pivot point of the carb linkage to the connection point of the TV cable have to be the same.

Jun 16, 2013 · Then, when it shifts into third, and the revs jump up to 4000 Revs. If you hold the accelerator down with the revs at 4000, the speed of the truck will continue to increase but its slow. Again, I havent tried to push it farther to get it to shift into overdrive. I can drive the truck with the selector in 2nd, but I cant go faster than 40 MPH. As long as the bore is in the valve body, the hydraulic package will apply. This kit includes 5 different springs giving 5 select lock up speed choices. This kit includes all valves necessary. 4L60/700-R4 K018 Shift Point Package The Shift Point Package will service governors in the 700-R4, 400, 350/C and 250/C.
Engine RPM Calculation Basics. Engine RPM, or the speed at which the engine turns, can be calculated at any speed given the vehicle's tire size, axle ratio, and final transmission gear ratio.
The 4L60E is the electronically commanded evolution of the Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4, originally produced in 1982. The 4L60E and 4L65E are built at Toledo Transmission in Toledo, Ohio and have also been built at Romulus Transmission in Romulus, Michigan and Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. The two transmissions cannot be differentiated from the outside.
I don't think the 700R4 is electronic. Not sure, only had one since 85. ( In IROC) Do the TV cable adjustment. Wrong adjustment can destroy the trans. Shift points will change according to how you are driving the car. Never really recorded points. Need to replace a radiator hose tomorrow, maybe I can drive around the block tomorrow afternoon.

700R4 Performance Specs. As mentioned, the 700R4 was a 4 speed automatic transmission. When the transmission was renamed to 4L60 in 1990, this naming convention provided a number of key characteristics about this transmission. The 4 indicates that it is a 4-speed transmission. The L denotes that the transmission is longitudinally positioned.

700R4 won't shift into 3rd or 4th when floored So I am driving around in an '87 Chevrolet Camaro LT, it has a 305 and a "rebuilt" 700R4 transmission, and earlier today I was racing a Civic down the highway when I noticed that, even at approx. 95-100 MPH, it won't shift into third or fourth when I floor it, yet when I'm driving normally, it goes ...
Apr 02, 2012 · D. GM VACUUM MODULATOR B&M’s Vacuum Modulator is fully adjustable, this allows you to tailor your shift points to within a range of 2-4 mph. Comes supplied pre-adjusted for normal shift points.
Transmission shudders seem worse than they actually are. Shudders occur most often when shifting into overdrive or when in overdrive and going up a slight incline. This occurs because the transmission fluid is contaminated and the contaminates, being suspended in the fluid, prohibit good pressure contact between the ...
The 700R4 doesn't have a vacuum modulator so that vacuum line as well as the kickdown cable can go away, make sure to plug the vacuum line. The 700R4 uses a TV cable to control part-throttle shiftpoints, line pressure, and kickdown. As this cable controls line pressure it's critical to the tranny's health and well being that it's adjusted ...
This is the C4 Dual-Range shift pattern for 1964–1966, with a large green dot for normal drive (1-2-3 upshifts) and a smaller dot for second gear only (driving on snow and ice). Too many motorists got this wrong and drove on the small dot, doing extensive transmission damage. For the 1966 model-year only, the C6 had this same shift pattern.
Oct 11, 2011 · Add a programmer I could DIAL in programs for shift points, launch speeds, shift point rpm’s,top speeds, etc. Premium fuel was required ! But, By reprogramming the computer ” 5 min” I could drop those times to 5.5 and 13.6!!!!! AND the top speed was 150-160 mph (Check it out on youtube. THIS MAGNUM WEIGHED 4600 LBS !!!
HMMM, seems the tranny is shifting a little too low. It should shift above 45 into OD. The torque converter afterwards. It seems the vacuum is locking in the torque converter too early. My rebuild had a weak 2/3 shift. I don't know why. A tranny guy raised the line pressure. The 2/3 shift is now firmer and 4Th kicks in at 50-55 MPH.
Jan 12, 2016 · This may cause the transmission to shift roughly or more quickly than normal. It's also common that a problem with these sensors can impact the shift timing, extending the interval between transmission shifts. An automatic transmission is hydraulically controlled and designed to shift smoothly.
Mar 11, 2011 · Ran into something very much like this on a 98 fbody that i tuned a few days back would hit limiter no matter what changes i made to shift points or mph finally had to look at a stock 98 a4 file as this car had been tune by someone else before I did. set all vss tables back to stock and the final drive table back to stock then started over on gear change, tire size and shift points no more ...
E.g., if peak power is 600HP @ 7,000 RPM and you shift at 7,600 where the power has dropped to 560, the RPM after the shift should be to whatever RPM gives you 560 HP. If after the shift you are at 570 HP, you need to drop your shift point a bit. If after the shift, you are at 540, you need to raise it.
Apr 05, 2019 · Today I bought a B&M cable and got it installed. I get a real firm shift into second at 15 mph and then a "normal" shift into 3rd at 35mph. I don't know that I ever feel the 4th gear shift and I've only run it up to 55mph at about 2600 rpm before backing off. I also dont feel the down shift from 2nd to 1st when doing that test.
Shift points on the 700R4 can vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle. It depends on gear ratio, throttle position, weight of the vehicle, and Throttle valve (in the valve body) position. The TV cable varies line pressure based on throttle position.
4 speed transmissions cause large rpm drops due to wide spacing of ratio changes, and require the engine to rev up to a higher shift rpm so the rpm drop after the shift is not too low. No matter what engine you have, these wide ratio changes result in poorer fuel economy, and require the engine to work harder when pulling heavy loads.
Plus Rebuild costs, new Torque Convertor and a TransGo shift kit - Dont buy the B&M Shift kits for 700r4 they contain a couple of springs and an oil filter, they are crap. The rebuild has cost quite a bit of cash, the parts from the states cost about £500 , + £300 for rebuild + £50 for transgo shift kit + £230 for std stall converter.
Apr 26, 2010 · What should the shift rpm points be in a 700R4? I think the tranny cable needs an adjustment. When in drive the 1 - 2 shifts are stacking on top of each other. 1st shifts at 2100 rpm, drops to 1800 in 2nd and shifts in 2nd at 2100 rpm.

Before you start snipping wires, keep in mind that permanently disabling your VSS is a very bad thing. Not only will it give you a continual Code 24 SES light, but it may result in more extensive transmission problems. If you have the 700R4 automatic, your ECM uses input from the VSS (among other sensors) to control TCC and shift points.
That's why I am not on the gear swap band wagon. Go too deep and you will try and go through the traps in the 1/4 mile in 4th gear, have fun with that. I stay in third and trap at 110 mph, my car shifts out of third at around 120 mph. The SRT has a bigger ring gear and a different driveshaft mount ( 4 bolt versus 3).
