Aug 30, 2013 · The 700R4 still being cheaper than the Gear Vendors with a little more work but with a 0.7/1 OD ratio. The Gear Vendors coming in at the largest expense but with a 0.78/1 OD ratio almost doesnt make sense to me at a 22% drop in final drive ratio vs dollar amount.
Sep 26, 2008 · 700r4 rpm shift points In normal driving, just easy acceleration from a stop, not WOT, at what rpm's do your 700r4's shift... I'm used to a 350, which shifted at a low rpm.
But, another safe way to get a reading that will be within 100 to 200 rpm, is to have a manually-shifted automatic transmission, or a way to hold it in high gear (1:1 ratio). With your car rolling at 10 to 15 mph, mash the throttle pedal to the floor, look at the tachometer, and then lift your foot from the throttle.
To raise throttle pressure (and raise shift points, and make "kick down" more responsive) move the cable housing towards the firewall (away from the throttle linkage) As you simultaneously depress the button on the cable housing, move the cable housing away from the carburetor (or throttle body) to increase throttle pressure.
The 180.03 mph run on the Sunday was simply a reflection of a slightly over-zealous tune off the line, the wheelspin bringing the revs up, and therefore the shift points. The unusual top speed was further helped along by the high-lustre polish (a combination of Autoglym, and our Brian's wax on - wax off detailing).

Just bought a '89 Chevy S-10 pickup that has a 350 V8 and 700R4 transmission. The transmission shifts at relatively high engine speeds during normal driving. Suspect the previously owner may have been setting up the truck for drag racing. Are the shift points controlled by the valve body? How can the shift points be lowered for daily driving?
